Much like modified bitumen roofs, built-up roofs consist of multiple plies of roofing felt laminated with asphalt and surfaced with gravel or stone set in asphalt. Originally known as composition roofing, it’s been around for over 150 years and remains in common use. It can be installed on virtually any flat or low-slope roof, with customization options for individual projects.

Advantages

  • Multiple plies result in Strong protection against leaks and wind
  • Extremely resistant impact damage
  • UV ray blockage

Installation

Installation involves layering up to 6 plies or felt roofing with asphalt, then surfacing with a layer of stone or gravel.  Built-up roofs can be installed over most types of substrates and insulation.
